Trees Hate You

Trees Hate You – A Forest That Messes With You Every Step of the Way

Trees Hate You is one of those 3D “rage games” that doesn’t try to scare you—it just straight up messes with you. What starts as a normal walk home after a picnic feels calm for about… a minute. Then things go wrong. Fast.

At first, everything looks safe—peaceful forest, clear path, nothing suspicious. But after a few steps, you start realizing the game is setting you up. Traps come out of nowhere, paths betray you, and the environment honestly feels like it’s targeting you on purpose.

Yeah, it can be frustrating. But at the same time, it’s funny. The way you fail—it feels less like punishment and more like the game pulling a joke on you. You’ll mess up a lot, but you’ll probably laugh, too.

You can also try Trees Hate You online at https://subwaycity.org/, which makes it super easy to just jump in and see what it’s about without installing anything.

Gameplay & Mechanics

Main Objective
The goal sounds simple: get through the forest and make it home.
Actually doing that? Not so simple.

Trap-Based Design
The forest is basically your enemy:

  • Trees can fall on you out of nowhere
  • Some will straight-up attack
  • Others trigger hidden traps you didn’t even notice

After a while, you stop trusting everything—and honestly, that’s the right mindset.

Misdirection Everywhere
This is where the game really gets you:

  • Safe-looking paths lead to instant failure
  • Obvious routes aren’t always the right ones
  • The game wants you to make bad decisions

You end up second-guessing even the simplest moves.

Character Customization
You can stick with the default character, or use the “Design a Victim” feature (yeah, that name says a lot) to create your own.

Collectibles & Items
While exploring, you might find:

  • Hats (mostly cosmetic, but still fun)
  • Tools like an axe that can change how you interact with the environment

Quick Retry Loop

You’ll die quickly. A lot.
But the game restarts you almost instantly, so it never really drags. You just go again… and probably fall for something else.

Instructions

  • W / A / S / D or Arrow Keys
