Subway Surfers Underwater: Welcome to the Underwater World Tour

Subway Surfers Underwater is the 183rd World Tour update and the 185th release in the Subway Surfers series. Released by SYBO Games on April 22, 2024, this version moves the familiar endless runner formula beneath the ocean with coral reefs, sea creatures, and a lot more blue than usual.

The first thing you'll probably notice is the underwater theme. The tracks are packed with coral formations, jellyfish, and ocean-inspired decorations. It still feels like Subway Surfers, but the environment gives the run a different look compared to the city-based updates.

This update also introduces Finn and Electra as new surfers. Koral receives a Sub Explorer outfit, while Cathy gets a Seaside outfit. Three hoverboards are available as well: Yellow Sub, Jelly Board, and Koinobori. If you like collecting characters and cosmetics, there's quite a bit to unlock here.

Starfish tokens appear throughout runs as part of the Season Hunt. On top of that, several limited-time events are active during the update, including Marathon Challenge, Tag Time Attack, Mystery Hurdles, Earth Run, and No Floor Challenge.

Running Through the Ocean

The objective doesn't really change. Run as far as possible, avoid obstacles, collect coins, and complete event missions along the way.

The controls are easy to learn. The difficult part comes later when the game starts speeding up and obstacles appear much closer together.

Things That Can End Your Run

A lot of crashes happen because players focus too much on collecting coins and not enough on what's ahead.

Common obstacles include:

  • Jellyfish appearing in different lanes
  • Coral barriers that narrow your path
  • Octopus tentacles blocking sections of the track
  • Coin trails that tempt you into risky lane changes
  • Faster movement speed the longer you survive

After a while, reaction time becomes more important than anything else.

Small Tips That Help

  • Stay in the middle lane whenever possible.
  • Don't jump if a simple lane switch will do the job.
  • Save hoverboards for faster sections.
  • Look a few obstacles ahead instead of watching only your character.
  • Ignore risky coin trails if the route looks crowded.
  • Make small movements instead of constantly changing lanes.

Most high-score runs come from staying consistent. Missing a few coins usually hurts less than running straight into a jellyfish.
